Novice

Definition

Amateur divers on this team are welcome at any age, as long as they can swim in deep water and have an adequate attention span. This team is ideal for athletes that want to challenge themselves by learning more about the sport of diving, improving skills, and learning new dives but who might not yet be interested in training at a more advance level. This team is ideal for athletes considering if diving will be their chosen sport. The foundation learned as part of the Novice Team will enable divers to transition smoothly onto the Junior Advanced team if they choose that goal.

To participate on the Intermediate Team, divers must be willing to work on acquiring the following skills in the tuck position on the 1M diving board and learn line-ups on the 3M board:

  • 101 – forward dive

  • 201 – back dive

  • 301 – reverse dive

  • 401 – inward dive

Note: Divers who have mastered these skills and are very near attaining the next level of skills may be invited to move onto the Junior Advanced team at the Director’s discretion.

  • Training Requirements/Time Commitment

Novice Team divers will practice between 2 and 4 days a week, and are encouraged to commit to 3 consecutive months before deciding if they would like to continue diving. This recommendation is calculated to ensure the diver has had sufficient time and exposure to the varying aspects of diver training to have an accurate sense of the overall sport.
